As far as I can gather, the Smiths originated from London and Middlesex (as part of it was back then). The earliest generation I can confidently provide information on goes back to Henry James Smith, who was born around 1820. Regrettably, I have been unable to find further information on Henry's parentage as I have no birth certificate and his marriage certificate does not contain a record of a father, this section is completely blank on the certificate.

For me, at the present time, herein endeth the Smith line. As you will no doubt agree, the Smith name is one of, if not the, most common in the UK, with London having the highest population. If anyone has details going back further than 1820 I would loveto hear from you.
