Sgt 11760 William Lewis Long was conscripted on 15 August 1915 into Army Veterinary Corps at the School of Farriery, Woolwich.

He was specially enlisted as a shoeing smith under RM No 74. Unfortunately due to continuing ill health he was discharged at Woolwich on 18 June 1918 due to him no longer being physically fit for War Service.
